Nicki Neugent is thrilled to be joining the Hays staff for the 2023-24 school year! Her responsibilities will include teaching Concert Band 2, being a woodwind specialist, assisting with brass classes as well as assisting with Symphonic Winds and Concert Band 1. Prior to teaching at Hays, Mrs. Neugent taught at Rushing Middle School here in Prosper ISD for the past 3 years. Under her direction, the Concert Band 1 was named the Grand Champion of the North Texas Festival of Distinction and received 1st division ratings at UIL. Prior to her time at Rushing, Mrs. Neugent was the Assistant Band Director at Cross Timbers Intermediate where she taught the beginning Woodwinds for the T.A. Howard Middle School & Summit High School Band programs. Both groups were selected to perform at the 2017 Midwest International Clinic where Mrs. Neugent was a feature soloist with her husband’s band. Both programs also went on Prior to CTIS, she taught elementary music in Irving ISD and has served as a Colorguard Director and flute private lesson instructor for the past 17 years.
Mrs. Neugent is a graduate of the University of North Texas with a degree in Flute Performance. While at UNT, she was a member of the UNT Wind Symphony under the direction of Eugene Migilaro Corporon. Mrs. Neugent was a student of Dr. Mary Karen Clardy and also a member of the Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Anshel Bruselov.
Mrs. Neugent was a member of the L. D. Bell High School Band under the direction of her father, Joseph Grzybowski. She is a native of Royal Oak, Michigan where her father was a band director and her mother was a private flute teacher before moving to Texas in 1984. Mrs. Neugent is a member of TMEA, TBA and SAI. Nicki resides in Prosper, TX with her husband Nathaniel the Director of Bands at Rock Hill High School in Prosper. Their son Connor is a third-generation band director, and will begin his second year of teaching at Rogers Middle School also in Prosper ISD.
